Intel is preparing a change of stepping for Celeron for Socket 478

According to The Register, the program
Updating the stepping of processors on the Prescott core will be continued in
Socket 478 Celeron models. Low-end processors on 90nm core with E-0 stepping
will ship, according to the source, from December 20.

As in the case of changing the stepping from D-0 to E-0 (the latest Pentium 4 and Celeron
for Socket T), the new Socket 478 Celeron will be compatible
with predecessors at the contact level and, according to Intel documents, will
be distinguished by “optimized energy consumption in order to increase performance”.

Changing the stepping to E-0 made it possible to support the “no execute” function
(via Windows XP Service Pack 2) from 775-pin P4 and Celeron, however,
in the case of Celeron for Socket 478, there will be no such “expansion of functionality”,
as, incidentally, in Mobile P4, deliveries of which in the “new modification” began
1 october. 478-pin E-0 Celeron clocked at 2.93 GHz should appear
after the start of deliveries of the E-0 Xeon, the start of deliveries is scheduled for 29
october.
