Sony MP3 players: coming to Europe in November

At the end of September already appeared
information about planned support of MP3 format by audio players. Today passed
a message that the company will introduce flash players at the end of November this year
of the year. It is reported that there will be two models of players, both will enter the market under the brand name
Network Walkman, NW-E95 and NW-E99 – 512 MB and 1 GB respectively (the latter
enough to store 46 CDs, presumably ATRAC3 Plus encoded with bitrate
48 kbps …).

The Register reports that Sony
mentioned the possibility of “playing MP3 players”, without specifying when
native support for this format by the player will be implemented. Existing 128
NW-E55 MB and NW-E75 256 MB will get native MP3 support after update
microcode that will be available in early November. Most likely W-E95 and
NW-E99 will ship with updated firmware.

Both players, according to the source, will weigh about 40 grams, the time of continuous
playtime on battery power for both models will be 70 hours.
The prices of devices in Europe were not announced, it was only noted that they will be “competitive”.
With 512MB MuVo TX priced at £ 90, the NW-E99 should be priced at less than 180
pounds – so that the price of a megabyte for both players is the same.
