DRAM market: the decline will last until the end of the year

Due to reduced demand for memory chips, DRAM contract prices may drop 10% in the first half of March, from $ 29-32 to $ 27-29 in 256-Mbit equivalent chips, according to a source citing Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers.

A new strategy adopted by Taiwanese OEMs is said to have added to the seasonal downturn that drove prices downward: along with orders for 512 Mbit DDR chips and 256 Mbit DDR2 memory chips, there is a trend towards a return of 256 -Mbit DDR chips back to manufacturers.

As a result, according to DRAMeXchange, the contract price of the 256-Mbps chips fell to $ 31 by the beginning of this month. In the future, as analysts predict, in particular, JP Morgan, the gap between supply and demand is expected to widen – from 2% to 10%, which will last until the fourth quarter of this year.
