Sun’s UltraSPARC IV + – Second Generation Dual-Core Architecture
Sun Microsystems Corporation introduced the processor
new generation UltraSPARC IV+. This processor is based on Chip Multithreading technology
(multithreading on a chip) marks the next step in the implementation of the strategy
Throughput Computing (high bandwidth). UltraSPARC processor
IV + allows simultaneous execution of multiple instructions, or command streams,
which significantly increases system performance.
UltraSPARC IV + is the second generation of the evolving dual-core architecture
Sun Microsystems, it is based on 90nm manufacturing technology
Texas Instruments. Compared to an UltraSPARC IV processor, it doubles the
application performance by increasing the amount of cache and buffers,
improved engine for branch prediction, advanced capabilities of the forward
fetching from memory and new computing capabilities. In addition, UltraSPARC
IV + uses a new three-tier cache hierarchy, including an integrated
on-chip 2MB L2 cache and external L2 cache
level of 32 MB.
In addition to new performance-enhancing features, the UltraSPARC IV processor+
has a significantly higher clock speed (originally 1.8 GHz), which
provides the highest throughput compared to other models
UltraSPARC processors. Compared to UltraSPARC IV processor performance
each stream has approximately doubled. At the same time, the availability of a number of funds
to improve reliability, performance and ease of maintenance allows
