I3A: X-rays are safe for digital media
The International Imaging Association (I3A) has issued a press release detailing the tests carried out to identify any negative effects on digital photo media. Testing conducted in collaboration with SanDisk Corporation and the US Transportation Safety Administration. Tests have shown that digital photo media are not damaged by X-ray inspection. The same conclusions were reached regarding the storage of photos in mobile phones, although, as noted in the press release, mobile phones were tested less thoroughly. This testing was carried out in order to refute rumors among the owners of digital cameras and “at least slightly reduce queues at airport terminals.”.
“Our testing should finally allay any fears about the safety of digital photos in transit.”, ? said Lisa Walker, President of I3A. on the effect of X-rays on photographic film. Then the test results
have shown that X-rays can damage photographs on high-sensitivity
film (ISO 800 and higher). For less sensitive films, the problem may appear
on the fifth or further passes through the X-ray scanners. Based on this
