TI at ISSCC: 65nm DSP and 90nm Cell Phone Solutions

While we haven’t dived into our coverage of 3GSM World Congress, it’s probably worth mentioning another announcement from this week’s ISSCC (International Solid State Circuits Conference): Texas Instruments has announced the launch and shipping of its first digital signal processors (DSP, digital signal processor), made in compliance with the 65-nm process technology.

TI 65nm DSP Trial Optimized for Mobile Phones Available This Quarter. The new processors are expected to enter mass production in the first half of 2021.

Observers believe that in this way, TI hopes to maintain technological leadership, staying one step ahead of competitors. According to a source citing the analytical firm Forward Concepts, the share of DSP TI sales in 2021 was 49.7%, followed by Freescale (12.9%) in DSP sales, and Agere (9.8%) in third. on the fourth ? Analog Devices (7.7%) followed by Philips (6.8%). The latter, by the way, for the first time made it into the top five DSP sales leaders, but let’s return to the new TI products.

90nm technologies are also not deprived of TI’s attention: during the ISSC, the company made several reports about new interesting developments. For example, TI has created a fully digital PLL (phase-lock-loop) circuit and a GSM / EDGE transmitter, made in accordance with 90nm standards. 90nm GSM / EDGE transmitter provides 6 dB / m output power at 1.2 V supply and 42 mA.

In addition, TI introduced a 90nm single-chip GPS receiver. With dimensions of 5×5 mm, the GPS receiver can be used in both GSM and CDMA devices. The receiver operates in the GPS L-1 band (1575.42 MHz) with an intermediate frequency of 4.092 MHz. Receiver sensitivity is 5 dB / m, IIP3 noise value outside the working range is 2.0 dB.
