Neuroprosthesis ? memory implant
According to wired.com Professor Theodore
Berger (Theodore W. Berger from the University of South Carolina, USA, created a microchip,
able to help a living organism, or rather its brain, preserve memories.
Long-term memories. This chip works on principles similar to how
those areas of the brain that are responsible for creating memories. When
the success of the introduction of such implants in the future, people who suffer from various
diseases associated with memory disorders (Alzheimer’s disease,
brain damage as a result of trauma, etc.) will be able to restore the ability
create new memories in your brain.
Six different teams contributed to the work on the new technology
from several universities, but they all work towards one common
goals. All of them will present the results of their research on neuroprosthesis at
annual meeting in San Diego. True, the chip has not yet been tested for
live rats, but some experiments have already been done on parts of the rat brain and these
experiments have revealed 95% accuracy of the chip. It’s hard to say exactly how
such an estimate was obtained, since the experiments were carried out not even on live rats,
but scientists consider this result to be very optimistic.
Experts from other universities consider this a new direction in neurosurgery,
? neuroprosthetics, since the areas of application of this
technologies ? people who have various diseases associated with the disorder
memory will be able to live a more fulfilling life, i.e.to. will be able to memorize long
names, addresses, titles, phone numbers, navigate an unfamiliar area
literally after a short stay in it. Further success depends
from the normal joint work of the brain and the new chip, i.e.e. will they be able to “get along” with each other, so that there is no rejection or even greater disruption of work
the brain to memorize those knowledge that are related to long-term memory.
