Japanese memory manufacturer Elpida Memory announced the development of a 1 Gbit DDR2 SDRAM chip running at 800 MHz. It is the fastest DDR2 SDRAM chip in the world, according to the company.
So far, however, Elpida does not plan to launch the chip on the market – firstly, there are problems with the support of such memory on motherboards, and secondly, the DDR2-667 MHz specifications have not yet been finally approved – JEDEC only recently announced the start of their consideration.
