May 03,  · Expression Studio is basically a design studio. It consists of a bunch of design software that Microsoft has bought for the most part. The audience is designers, not developers. The gist of the software is that Expression Blend enables designers and programmers to work seamlessly together in letting the designer create the graphical user interface. Expression Studio is a package that includes Expression Blend, Expression Web, Expression Design, and Expression Encoder. All of these products are very high quality and help designers (and developers!) do things on Windows that previously would require a much more expensive Adobe package. Expression isn’t for everyone, but I really like it, and haven’t found any major problems with 4/5(8). Jun 07,  · The Expression Studio Quick Start Guides provide information about features in Expression Studio 3, as well as what is new in the latest release of Expression Studio. For more information about what else is new in the latest release of Expression Studio, see Expression Studio 4 Ultimate Overview.

IBM on upcoming server blades: Nocona and other trends

Scott Tease, IBM Director of BladeCenter Server Line, shared his vision for the future.

First of all, next month it is planned to introduce an economical Intel Nocona processor (its Low Voltage version) instead of the usual Xeon, and this is primarily due to the desire to reduce the power consumption of ready-made systems. Savings per processor are around 50W, which translates into an impressive 1.5KW per chassis. Processors are the main consumers of energy in servers, accounting for about 30% of the current consumption. Mr. Teese reasonably remarked that “when we do not consume energy, we do not produce heat either”. The low-voltage Xeon draws about 55 watts, just over half of the 103 watts of the regular Xeon, and is just as successful at running 32- and 64-bit applications. Initially, one of the most important driving factors for the implementation of blade servers was to increase performance while saving space required for placement, and reducing power consumption fits well with this concept, and in general it is more and more relevant. In server rooms with new systems, it will be possible to additionally save on air conditioners.

Another important direction in the development of the concept of “blades” is the integration of shared components not into the body, but into the chassis. For example, 14 conventional 1U servers must have at least 28 power supplies and 112 fans, and a chassis containing 14 dual-processor modules costs 4 power supplies and 2 large fans.

Also, the trend towards generalization of components will be extended to floppy and optical drives, and KVM switches have long been used in a large number of solutions.

Such optimizations lead to tangible savings in energy and space, a decrease in heat generation, and all this without sacrificing computing power and usually with an increase in server reliability.

I’d like to add that Dell recently launched an initiative to reduce the cost of blade servers.
